Marvellous Maya

Today we had a Maya visitor!
He introduced us to the Maya creation story and showed us how the Maya used to sacrifice to their gods to get things they wanted like sunny or rainy weather. They would cut them person up, pull out their heart and remove their heads! Ew!
Then we made some Maya zoomorphic pots! We used clay to make a small, round disk for the bottom and a long snake that we wound round and round to make the sides of the pot. We used a small bit of clay to create our animal heads and tails to attach to our pot.
Before lunch we went with our visitor to do an archaeological dig! We looked in the sand for artefacts from all ages! We found lots of things made of rocks and metal such as coins, pots and broches.
After lunch we took part in an artefact investigation. We looked at some real Maya artefacts and learned about where they came from! It was priceless!
