Year 4’s ZooLab Visit
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 4:17pm
This week, we continued our learning all about rainforests by receiving a visit from Chris from ZooLab. We revised our knowledge on the different layers of the rainforest and heard lots of facts about why protecting rainforests is so important.
Next, we had the opportunity to handle some of the different animals you may find in a rainforest. We started with two Giant African land snails, whose bodies felt very slimy to touch! We then met Millie, the Madagascar hissing cockroach who scuttled quickly across the floor. After that we had the opportunity to see a Chilean rose tarantula who was already 20 years old! We also had the chance to look at a White's tree frog that gripped onto the handler's arm even when fully upright. Next, we had the opportunity to hold an Indian stick insect and discussed how easily they could camaflague themselves against trees. Our final animal that we had the chance to meet was a corn snake, which felt very soft and scaly.
Chris told us lots of different interesting facts about all of the creatures we met. We also learnt all about the different plants that grow in rainforests that we eat. This included cocoa pods, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger.
We all had a fantastic and fun time learning even more about rainforests.
